How Much Does First Aid Training Cost In Essex? 2026 Price Guide

First aid training in Essex costs from £125 + VAT per person for a one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course, and from £750 + VAT to train a group of up to 12 at your own premises. What you pay depends on three things: which qualification you need, how many people you are training, and whether they travel to a training centre or the trainer comes to you.

Many providers ask you to call for a quote. We publish our prices, so this guide uses real figures. All prices are Essex Medical Training’s own, correct as of October 2026, and exclude VAT.

Open Course Prices Per Person

An open course is a scheduled date at our training centre in Battlesbridge, where you book individual places alongside learners from other organisations. It is the usual choice when you have one to six people to train.

Course Length Price per person Including VAT
Emergency First Aid at Work 1 day £125 + VAT £150
First Aid at Work 3 days £265 + VAT £318
First Aid at Work Requalification 2 days £195 + VAT £234
Paediatric First Aid 2 days £165 + VAT £198

The price covers the tuition, the course book, the assessment and the certificate. There is free parking at the centre, and tea and coffee are provided.

On-Site Group Training Prices

If you have a team to train, we send a trainer to your workplace with all the equipment and you pay one fixed fee for up to 12 learners. There are no per-head charges and no travel charges anywhere in Essex, Southend-on-Sea or Thurrock.

Course Length Group price (up to 12) Per person with 12 learners
Emergency First Aid at Work 1 day £750 + VAT £62.50
Emergency Paediatric First Aid 1 day £750 + VAT £62.50
Paediatric First Aid (2-day classroom) 2 days £1,295 + VAT £107.92
First Aid at Work Requalification 2 days £1,350 + VAT £112.50
First Aid at Work 3 days £1,895 + VAT £157.92

Blended Paediatric First Aid, with around six hours of online learning followed by one practical day, starts from £750 + VAT for a group. The full list, with what is included, is on our on-site group training prices page.

Open Course Or On-Site: Which Is Cheaper?

It comes down to numbers. Below a certain group size it costs less to book individual places. Above it, the fixed group fee wins.

  • Emergency First Aid at Work: six places on an open course cost the same as the group fee (£750). From seven learners, on-site training is cheaper.
  • First Aid at Work: seven open places cost £1,855 and eight cost £2,120, against a group fee of £1,895. On-site is cheaper from eight learners.
  • First Aid at Work Requalification: on-site is cheaper from seven learners.
  • Paediatric First Aid (2-day): on-site is cheaper from eight learners.

Price per head is only part of the cost. With on-site training nobody travels, the session can be shaped around your workplace and your risks, and you choose the date. With an open course you can send one or two people at a time, which matters if you cannot release a whole team on the same day.

What Affects The Price Of First Aid Training?

  • The qualification. A three-day First Aid at Work course costs more than a one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course because it is three days of a trainer’s time and covers far more.
  • Who teaches it. Our courses are taught by healthcare professionals with frontline emergency ambulance and emergency department experience. That costs more to provide than a trainer who has only ever taught, and it shows in how well learners cope when something real happens.
  • Whether it is regulated. A regulated qualification is quality assured by an awarding organisation. Very cheap courses are often unregulated, online-only, or both. HSE expects employers to check that a provider is competent, and an online-only course does not meet the practical requirement for workplace first aiders.
  • What is included. Check whether the quoted price includes course books, certificates, equipment and travel. Ours does.

We are not the cheapest provider in Essex and we do not set out to be. We price below the large national providers and above the budget end of the market, because the point of the training is that your people can act when it matters.

How Much Training Do You Actually Need?

Before comparing prices, work out how many first aiders you need and at what level. HSE says there are no hard and fast rules, and asks every employer to carry out a first aid needs assessment. Its published guide suggests, as a starting point:

  • Lower-hazard workplaces such as offices and shops: an appointed person for fewer than 25 employees, at least one Emergency First Aid at Work first aider for 25 to 50, and at least one First Aid at Work first aider for every 100 employees above that.
  • Higher-hazard workplaces such as engineering, warehousing and construction: an appointed person for fewer than five employees, at least one first aider for 5 to 50, and at least one First Aid at Work first aider for every 50 employees above that.

You then need to allow for shifts, holidays, sickness and multiple sites. Our free first aid needs assessment calculator does the sums in about two minutes and gives you a written result for your records.

The Cost Over Three Years

Workplace first aid certificates last three years, so the real cost is best looked at per year. A First Aid at Work place at £265 + VAT works out at about £88 a year for a qualified first aider. A team of 12 trained on site in Emergency First Aid at Work works out at about £21 per person per year.

When the certificate nears expiry, a First Aid at Work first aider can requalify on the shorter two-day course, provided they do it in time. HSE also strongly recommends annual refresher training in between.
